Breaking: TFS announce final World Cup Podcast squad

Christian Layland and Jack Quigley have been named alongside Pat Flaherty in The Football Sack’s World Cup Podcast line-up after producer Dave trimmed his squad back to the final three at their training base in Byron Bay this morning.

Pete Nowakowski, Brad Hutchings and James Clark have all been cut from TFS’ World Cup Podcast squad, though Clarke will remain on standby for host Jack Quigley who has been named in the three man squad despite concerns over his vocal chords following an incident during the training camp.

Podcast producer Dave said Jack “will be doing all he can to be fit in time for tomorrow’s first show.”

“He’s been drinking tea with honey and lemon and doing some light vocal exercises and his voice seems to be responding to the treatment well.”

Dave would not confirm or deny whether Quigley sustained the vocal injury whilst “out on the lash with the boys”.

“Jack’s not focused on how he sustained the injury, what he was doing, who he was shouting at and whether or not he was wearing a shirt at the time of the incident,” said Dave.

“The main thing is that he’s right to go tomorrow and we’re confident that he will be, but James is an able replacement should he be required.”

Co-host Christian Layland avoided questions on the subject during press commitments after training.

“I can’t comment on the incident as it’s still under investigation by the police, but there’s no way the damage bill being touted is accurate, you could buff most of those dents right out.”

The cloud over Quigley’s fitness has come as an unwelcome distraction for Flaherty, who will be making his World Cup debut after a solid run of performances on The Football Sack Podcast during the Hyundai A-League season.

“Ideally we’d like to just be able to focus on our training but this is the World Cup, every detail is magnified and scrutinised.”

“We’re constantly having to answer questions about the squad. Have we gone with the right line up? Is Jack going to be fit? Will he apologise to the old lady and offer to pay for the damage?”
