Adelaide United and Sydney FC have played out a highly entertaining draw at Coopers Stadium on Friday Night.

The hosts were extremely lucky to escape with a point on a night where Sydney was far the superior player.

This decisive encounter started in the most extraordinary of circumstances with Adelaide United taking the lead after just two minutes.

The ball deflected off Ryall and into the path of Cirio to give the Reds an early 1-0 advantage.

The Reds looked bright and optimistic, pressuring the Sky Blues immensely while the raucous home support cheered on in the background.

Ten minutes later however and that early optimism was replaced with a more concerning outlook as the visitors began to control proceedings.

Sydney was looking far more composed on the ball compared to Adelaide who seemed content to counter.

As the half dragged on and Sydney pushed Adelaide deeper and it seemed inevitable that the visitors were going to level.

And surprise, surprise in the 37th minute Matt Simon headed home a wonderful cross to have the Sky Blues back on level terms.

As half time neared and supporters began leaving their seats for refreshments, this already mesmerizing game entered a crazy little period that caught everyone off guard.

In the 45th minute Cirio put the hosts back in front with an exquisite shot that somehow worked its way through the Sydney defenders and Janjetovic.

Then in the third minute of additional time and and just seconds before the interval, Ninkovic beautifully picked out Holosko who chipped the ball over Galekovic to make it 2-2.

Sydney picked up in the second half where they left off in the first; dominant and firmly in control.

They comfortably held the ball in the final third and continued to create a surplus of wonderful chances.

The Coopers Stadium crowd was getting restless with what they were witnessing, shocked at the ease of which their Reds were being outplayed.

This theme continued for much of the half with Adelaide occasionally offering something in attack.

In the 77th minute Dimitrijevic looked certain to give Sydney the lead when his wicked shot forced Galekovic into a wonderful save.

As the game neared its conclusion, Sydney continued to push hard for the winner, searching for any way through they could find.

The enthralling football match eventually concluded at 2-2, a point awarded to both.

Sydney remains above United on the Hyundai A-League ladder, whilst the Reds travel to Gosford next week to try and keep their unbeaten streak alive.
