The Jets have said goodbye to their season after losing 2-1 to Perth Glory on Saturday night.

The Jets desperately needed a win against Perth to have any chance of making finals but Perth proved too much for the home side who couldn’t capitalise.

Mitch Cooper created a few chances for Newcastle within the first minutes sending a ball toward goal but Ante Covic proved too strong, denying the Jets an early goal.

Cooper had another chance in the 13th with a quality steal but a poor touch turned the ball over to Glory.

Morten Nordstrand managed to put an impressive shot toward goal but curved it wide and it flew past the goal.

Nordstrand followed up with another opportunity in the 22nd but was called offside.

Aryn Williams earned the first yellow in the 31st minute for a nasty challenge and was subsequently pulled off at half time while Nick Cowburn was put in the book in the 43rd for an earlier incident.

Mark Birighitti made some great saves in the first half to keep Perth at bay while some bad touches and poor finishes left Jets hitting the sheds scoreless.

Perth kicked off the first half with a yellow card to Shane Lowry in the 54th while Jason Hoffman picked one up for the Jets in the 62nd and Kantarovski earned one in the 64th.

Andy Brennan made his A-League debut in the 64th minute taking place of Cooper, and Brennan made quick use of his opportunity creating a corner.

Krisztian Vadocz capitalised on a corner to take the lead for Glory in the 72nd putting a strike past Birighitti.

Jets retaliated with a scramble to equalise and a chance came in the 80th minute after Brennan set up a great play however a big save from Covic was enough to deny the home side a leveler.

Referee Kris Griffiths-Jones awarded a penalty to Glory in the 87th minute, sending Nigel Boogaard to the sheds with a red.

Andy Keogh took the penalty well, extending the Perth lead to 2-0.

The Jets had a chance to redeem themselves one minute into extra time with a foul on Nordstrand earning a penalty and sending Dino Djulbic to the sheds with his second yellow.

Mateo Poljak took the penalty in fine form to making it 2-1 and giving Newcastle the faintest of hopes at a last minute equaliser.

Despite the excitement of the final minutes, Perth managed to keep their lead and take all three points, winning the game 2-1.
