Newcastle Jets have condemned the Melbourne Victory to their first loss of the season after a dominant display at Lakeside Stadium.

Coming off a loss to Melbourne City in Round One, Newcastle have bounced back and put three goals past a lackluster Victory outfit.

The onslaught started in the seventh minute when Megan Oyster scored from a freekick just outside the box leaving Victory Keeper Bianca Henninger unable to stop it.

The wet conditions didn’t help Victory as they struggled to get any purchase on the ball whilst trying to play out from the back.

It was another set piece that undid the Victory in the 14th minute.

American Arin Gilliland rose highest at the corner to head the Jets’ second goal to make it 2-0.

Victory had no answers to the onslaught of pressure that Craig Dean’s side was applying and were broken again just before the half hour.

Alexandra Cheal’s backpass was picked off by Emma Stanbury who knocked in the third past the oncoming Henninger.

Newcastle were on cloud nine and would not have wanted the half to end having taken Melbourne to the cleaners in the opening 45 minutes.

After a down pore of rain during the half time break, both teams came out with renewed vigour.

Victory’s Natasha Dowie was fighting hard for every ball but with a lack of supply coming her way it was hard for her to make an impact.

The game was won in the midfield, as Newcastle’s pressure was too much for Victory to handle.

Christine Naim was still pulling all the strings in midfield for the Victory, but the lack of support made it impossible for her efforts to bare any fruit.

Newcastle’s long ball game was effective placing the Victory defense under constant pressure.

Despite this Victory still had chances of their own, non better coming in the 60th minute with Lia Privitelli reciveing the ball from Dowie but her shot rattled the cross bar leaving Newcastle keeper Kelsey Wys thanking her lucky stars.

Victory coach Jeff Hopkins will have his work cut out to turn this result around before their next game against Sydney at Lakeside Stadium.

The Jets will now head over to Perth in the double header against Perth Glory.
