Brisbane Roar salvaged a 3-2 victory over Adelaide United on Sunday, during the Roar’s first double header clash at Suncorp Stadium for the season.

The home side should have left Adelaide for dead, maintaining a 3-0 lead for the first three quarters of the match but mistakes by Roar’s defence allowed United back into the contest.

In true fashion, Katrina Gorry collected the first goal of the match, soon doubled by Tameka Butt, putting the Roar in early lead all in under 11 minutes.

Emily Gielnik was in with consecutive early chances managing to find space among Adelaide’s defenders, while Gorry almost collected her third goal of the half but was called offside before it met the net.

Adelaide United fought hard to chase the game and equalise but too much space in the box gave Roar an onslaught of early chances and overall advantage in the first half.

Allira Toby was a dominant force from the moment she took the field, creating opportunities and driving her team toward the net for a well-executed third goal for Brisbane.

Adelaide collected their first strike in the 58th minute thanks to Adriana Jones, followed by a well-executed free kick by Sofia Huerta, bringing the score to 3-2 in front of the 4,515 strong crowd.

With just ten minutes left in the match, Roar pressed hard to fend off a resurgent Adelaide as they fought for an equaliser.

Opportunities to Toby and Gorry failed to surpass Adelaide’s last minute defensive revival and the game came to a close maintaining a close 3-2 score in Roar’s favour.

Round Seven will see Brisbane take on Canberra United away from home where they will fight for redemption following their disappointing defeat on home turf in Round Three against the side.
