With the two teams neck and neck on the ladder the Round 15 match between Newcastle and Perth still couldn’t break the stalemate at McDonald Jones Stadium. With Glory beating the Jets 2-2 in the physical 90-minute match.

The visiting side opened the scoring in the 7th minute with Perth Glory grabbing a 1-0 lead. A through ball fell to Jets; defender Lachlan Jackson’s feet, but a miss kick allowed Perth’s Adam Taggart to collect the ball and push it past goalkeeper Jack Duncan.

The first chance for the Jets’ to equalise came after Glory captain Rostyn Griffiths took down Andrew Hoole, securing the home side a free kick just outside the box. Ma Lei Lei stepped up to take the free kick but his teammates were unable to connect with the swinging ball.

The equaliser came when Morten Nordstrand was pulled down in the box by Glory defender Shane Lowry. The Jets were awarded a penalty and Mateo Poljak stepped up to push it past Glory’s Liam Reddy, making the scores 1-1 in the 37th minute.

Nordstrand was involved again, when he fed the ball to Andrew Nabbout, who beat the Glory’s defenders and found the back of the net in first half injury time. Chaos enused following the goal with the Squadron breaking the perimeter fence and supporters collapsing onto the field.

In the opening minutes of the second half the ball floated across the Jets’ goal to  Diego Castro’s feet, but with an open goal he somehow managed to hit the crossbar to keep the score 2-1.

The scores were levelled once again, when a cross from Glory’s Chris Harold found the sliding foot of unmarked attacker Andrew Keogh to level the scores 2-2 in the 55th minute.

Glory went to 10 men after Griffiths took down substitute Devante Clut on halfway. Tensions rose when he was faced with his second yellow and red card, with a few choice words handed to referee Stephen Lucas during the exchange.

Both teams will be working to remain in the top six going into the second half of the season following the draw. Perth Glory will host second placed Melbourne Victory at home in Round 16, while Newcastle Jets will travel to Western Sydney to play Wanderers.
