Perth Glory has continued their solid mid-season form playing out a 1-1 draw with Newcastle Jets at Dorrien Gardens in Perth.

The Glory were unable to leap to outright first on the Westfield W-League table, as Newcastle Jets professionally held the home side to a 1-1 draw.

The first half began slowly with neither side showing real dominance in the match.

The first real chance of the game came in the 32nd minute after Nicole Stanton connected for a clever one-two with Vanessa Di Bernardo, however the Glory number seven smashed the resulting shot over the bar.

Controversy arose in the 36th minute after Rosie Sutton cutely released Samantha Kerr in on goal, only for a scrambling Grace MacIntyre to cynically foul the Glory skipper inside the 18-yard box.

Referee Rachel Mitchenson didn’t hesitate to show the Jets defender the first yellow card of the match.

Sutton stepped up for the resulting spot-kick, however Katelyn Rowland was equal to the task diving to her left side to easily make the save.

Sutton nearly rectified her mistake in the 40th minute, forcing Rowland into a marvellous save after her 20-yard shot looked destined for the top corner.

It was the last piece of real action in the first half as both sides entered the sheds locked at 0-0.

The Jets caught the Glory napping immediately after the restart, scoring from their first attacking move of the second stanza.

In the 46th minute Jenna Kingsley capitalised on some modest Glory defence, as she found space for a one-on-one to easily round a rushing Gabrielle Del Busco to make it 1-0.

Newcastle piled more pressure on the Glory defence in the 59th minute as they look to secure maximum points.

From an attacking corner, Megan Oyster rose highest to smash a header against the cross bar, which caused a goalmouth scramble. Rhali Dobson was on hand for the follow up, but hit her resulting shot against the post.

Newcastle would rue those missed chances as Samantha Kerr once again proved the saviour for Perth, levelling the scores in the 69th minute.

Kerr potentially scored her best goal of the season after she left three Newcastle defenders in her wake, to delicately chip Jets’ keeper Rowland to make it 1-1.

Both sides would hold on and claim a valuable point on a hot and humid summer’s day in Perth.

The Glory will host Melbourne Victory at home in Round 11, while the Jets will enter their week off, happy to have claimed an away result.
