Muscat reaction fuels Khalfallah speculation

Kevin Muscat was forced to bat away multiple questions on Fahid Ben Khalfallah after his side’s 2-1 win over bottom-placed Adelaide United but failed to end speculation.

With Muscat claiming the Victory are still in the race for the Premiership, there were question marks over the omission of the attacker who has potential to help in the title chase.

Fox Sports commentator Robbie Slater said on air that in a conversation with Khalfallah the Tunisian claimed that he wasn’t picked due to a contract clause issue.

Apparently, if Khalfallah is selected for another game the contract clause will be triggered and his contract will automatically be extended for another season.

Muscat declined to comment on the situation. Instead, the coach was keen to focus on next week’s match and deal with the future when it comes.

If the Victory win next Friday’s Big Blue derby they will close the gap on Sydney to five points and put major pressure on the Sky Blues in the final weeks of the season.

“We can control what happens next week. So let’s get through that and see what happens.

“When we perform well we win … so why not [win the Premiership].”
