Perth Glory have moved to bolster their defensive options before finals, signing Romanian centre-half Lucian Goian on a (very) short-term deal for the remainder of the season.

Goian joins Perth from Indian Super League side Mumbai City after one season and will act as defensive competition for Dino Djulbic and Aryn Williams.

Goian’s signature is a necessary one for the Glory, who are without defensive duo Alex Grant (foot) and Shane Lowry (quad) for the rest of the current campaign.

Goian could displace Aryn Williams in central defence in the coming weeks.

Williams is a make-shift centre-half and has put in some praiseworthy performances in recent times, but if Perth want to have a lengthy finals campaign playing Goian might be the best option.

Goian will not only provide greater height than Williams, but will provide invaluable experience to Perth having spent the majority of his career in Europe.

Match fitness may be an issue for Goian initially, having not played since Mumbai City’s losing semi-final on December 13.

The former Romanian under-21 international has had somewhat of a globetrotting career, plying his trade for 11 clubs throughout Romania, China, India and now Australia.

Goian represented Dinamo Bucuresti in the UEFA Cup and Kenny Lowe will be hoping his European pedigree can help push Perth to some finals glory this season.
