Newly-crowned Premiers Sydney FC added yet another dominant display to their season highlight reel with a 3-0 victory over Melbourne City in front of 15,266 fans at Allianz Stadium.

Two goals from Bobo and one from Alex Brosque capped off a convincing second half display from the hosts as they blew away an uninspiring City for their 19th win of the season.

City certainly started the match the more energetic of the two sides, getting into a number of dangerous positions and looking to exploit Michael Zullo on the right flank.

And it was Bruno Fornaroli who nearly gave City a well-deserved lead after eight minutes from a curling free kick on the edge of the area which whacked off the post after beating Danny Vukovic.

With both teams showing a relentless determination to retain possession the match became an energetic arm wrestle in the middle stages of the first half, but neither side was able to produce any decent final product.

As the game ebbed and flowed from end to end, Sydney had two great chances of their own to take the lead after the half hour – Bobo heading just over the bar from close range and Ninkovic blasting a swerving shot over as well.

The match could not have been more different in the second half as City looked a shadow of the team which had put out such a gritty display in the first, and it wasn’t long before Sydney capitalised on their sloppiness.

Zullo launched a long throw right into the danger area of the box and Brosque was there to pounce on the bouncing ball, lobbing an effort over Dean Bouzanis and into the net for Sydney’s first after 57 minutes.

The goal seemed to light a fire under the league leaders, and it wasn’t long before they doubled their lead.

Zullo again found himself in the mix, and the left-back was given far too much time on the left hand side to lash in a low cross-cum-shot into the area. Bouzanis failed to reach the ball, and it was Bobo who snuck in at the back post to grab his 13th of the season after 64 minutes.

Sydney looked eager to extend their lead further as they attempt to hunt down Brisbane Roar’s A-League points record, and they did just that in the 90th minute with Bobo heading in his second and Sydney’s third after a delightful cross from David Carney.

The Sky Blues will be delighted with yet another fine performance on their march to the finals, meanwhile City will be looking nervously over their shoulder and thinking what could have been after such an abject second half display.
