Newcastle Jets failed to make the most of their dominance in a hard fought game at McDonald Jones Stadium as Perth Glory scored late to secure a 2-2 draw.

It was the Jets who created the first clear cut opportunity of the afternoon with Glory keeper Liam Reddy getting down well to stop Ronald Vargas from giving the home side an early lead.

Just eight minutes in however and former Jet, Adam Taggart opened the scoring for Perth after getting his boot on the end of a brilliantly delivered cross from Diego Castro.

Following the goal the game settled into a rhythm with both sides carving out a number of decent chances.

In the 19th minute a deliciously delivered ball from Vargas curled perfectly onto the head of Roy O’Donovan who just couldn’t control his header.

Just five minutes later and it was Perth with a great opportunity as Castro found himself one on one with Jets keeper Jack Duncan before a last ditch challenge from Nigel Boogaard put the ball behind for a corner.

The see-sawing continued in the 30th minute as brilliant build up play by Vargas saw him find Andrew Nabbout down the left flank. The winger’s low ball across the box was tapped home by O’Donovan from close range to equalise for the home side.

On the stroke of halftime, the Jets’ fullbacks combined as Ivan Vujica found Georgievski who skied his shot from six yards out, rounding out a half that the home side just edged on chances.

The Jets consolidated their early second half pressure in the 60th minute as a Dimi Petratos free kick found the head of Nikolai Topor-Stanley who headed onto the post and out before being knocked home by Ben Kantarovski from close range.

As Glory looked to get back into the game a 78th minute bullet header by Taggart drew brilliant save from Duncan to maintain the Jets’ slender one goal advantage.

The trend of strikers scoring goals against their former teams continued in 90th minute stoppage time as Taggart rose to head home and deny his former side all three points.

The Jets will be disappointed after failing to build on last week’s result however Glory will be more than happy with a point well deserved by their injury hit squad.
