Newcastle Jets have kept their unbeaten home record going as they recorded a 4-1 win over 10-man Melbourne Victory on Thursday night at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Novocastrians are bracing for a big weekend of sport with the V8 Supercars coming to town but all the entertainment they needed was found on the pitch as they were treated to a brilliant 90 minutes of football that included five goals, three injured defenders and one red card.

The come from behind win for the Jets was sealed as two Victory old boys struck against their former side with Daniel Georgievski and Andrew Nabbout both finding the back of the net.

It didn’t take long for the first bit of action as Kosta Barbarouses stunned the home crowd after just five minutes as he volleyed home from the edge of the box after James Troisi had played a perfectly weighted ball over the Jets defence.

The Jets responded quickly to going behind when just eight minutes later Georgievski gloriously curled the ball into the top corner of the net against his former side.

Just two minutes later Victory keeper Lawrence Thomas pulled off one of the saves of the season to deny an Ivan Vujica rocket that prevented his side from going behind just 10 minutes after taking the lead.

As if the game needed anymore action early on Mark Milligan was given a straight red card in the 28th minute after head-butting Georgievski following a nasty tackle that the right-back had just been shown a yellow card for.

Nabbout completed the first half turnaround for the Jets as he finished off a neat move by knocking in a Jason Hoffman low cross from right in front of goal.

After a quieter opening to the second half it was Newcastle who made their man advantage count when a quick throw in from Nabbout set Champness through on goal and he calmly slotted the ball under the keeper to extend the lead.

Minutes later Petratos hit what is now a signature long range shot from way outside the box that flew past Thomas and smacked against the bar.

Nabbout rounded things off for Newcastle as he tapped in from close range following some great build up play by Petratos.

Newcastle will welcome Melbourne City to town next weekend while Victory look to ignite their season away at Wellington Pheonix.
