Central Coast Mariners recruit Ben Kennedy reflects on his recent move from rivals Newcastle Jets as his side prepare for their clash with Melbourne City.

Kennedy began the season as second choice goalkeeper with Tom Glover selected as the club’s starting gloveman.

The 30-year-old was called upon in their Round 5 encounter against Brisbane Roar after Glover was ruled out with an injury.

The Mariners goalkeeper kept a clean sheet for his new club as they drew 0-0 with the Roar.

The former Jet has remained in goal for the Central Coast and has kept two clean sheets in his last four appearances.

Kennedy’s place in the starting eleven has coincided in an upturn in form with Paul Okon’s men currently sitting in fourth place on the A-League ladder.

The club recently recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season after defeating Wellington Phoenix 4-1 in New Zealand before returning home and defeating Perth Glory 1-0 at Central Coast Stadium.

Despite their recent run of form the Mariners goalkeeper has remained grounded as they look to make it three wins from three this Sunday against City.

“We just take it game by game and know that all the other stuff will take care of itself,” said Kennedy.

“We know if we go down there and play our game and the way we want to play then we have no one to fear, we are confident heading down there.”

The Central Coast shot-stopper is confident that he made the right choice for his career by joining Central Coast.

“I feel like a new person, a new player,” he said.

“It’s a great vibe around the club, a great culture and a great community and family feel.”

A win against City will see the Mariners close the gap on the top three as the community club looks to reinstate themselves amongst the A-League elite.
