The second Melbourne Derby of the season contained plenty of action with substitute Mark Milligan clinching a 1-0 win for Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

A fast-paced game overall saw both teams show promise in their attacks despite just the one goal between them.

It took until second-half stoppage time for the match-winner with Milligan the one to score it.

A clumsy foul conceded by Dean Bouzanis proved very costly given Milligan could tuck away his penalty to the left.

James Troisi had the first chance after 13 minutes with a low shot straight at Bouzanis.

City were put on the back foot as Victory failed to find the end product despite great link up play in the final third.

They nearly found the opener with just under half an hour gone, when Leroy George came agonisingly close.

Kosta Barbarouses cut back to the Dutchman who from close range rattled the cross bar with a powerful strike aimed to the middle.

City did well to keep it at 0-0 in a first half that was dominated by Victory.

Victory continued where they left off after halftime, creating chances going forward but no clear-cut opportunities.

They did get one after 57 minutes, as Troisi’s chipped pass made Besart Berisha attempt a mini-bicycle kick – but Bouzanis was in the way to make a save.

It was City’s turn to apply the pressure as McCormack and Kamau generated a couple of blocked shots between them to work their team into the match.

Another golden opportunity went begging in the 86th minute with Nick Fitzgerald as he was knocked off balance by Carl Valeri, but managed to produce a shot that travelled towards the top left corner which was tipped away by Thomas.

In an unbelievable turn of events, Bouzanis conceded a penalty in the dying minutes.

The City keeper didn’t catch the long cross, fouling Milligan in the process and the veteran had no problems converting the spot kick to steal the win for Victory.
