We lost our way a little bit towards the end of 2017.

Some of the things that we thought would work for us didn’t really work for us and we didn’t have an answer or a plan b.

We’ve worked a lot on that during our time off by looking at ways to exploit our opposition’s weakness and to strengthen our ability to score goals and to retain the ball.

Heather Garriock is looking for a little more consistency into the New Year, it’s brilliant to keep everybody on their toes and to change the team so often but with the nature of how short this competition is it’s difficult to find.

That’s our main aim for 2018, we know we have the talent within the squad but we need to put in strong performances week-in week-out.

It’s been a bit strange having such a big break after our last game against Sydney FC on the 15th of December.

Some of the other teams have had two games in that period and we’ve felt a bit like outsiders watching on television but I think that has just made the team more refreshed and eager to get back out there.

Everyone is saying that there really is no easy fixture in this league and it may sound like a bit of a cliché but it really is the case.

We can’t underestimate Adelaide, they will be very tough and they’ll be looking to make a good start to 2018 but we believe in ourselves and we believe we can bounce back and get the result.

We’re confident we can make our way back into a finals spot.

We haven’t made it easier for ourselves. There’s definitely been games that we should have taken more away from but you just have to stay determined and keep fighting until that very last game on the 3rd of February.

Everything has been looking good for Ashley Sykes to make her return, she’s a brilliant player to have in the league and she’s incredibly pivotal to us so fingers crossed that she’ll be fit to get back on the pitch.

Back to back home games will be really important for us, especially before we travel to Perth which is obviously a long way.

To get the next two at McKellar will give us a huge boost and hopefully we get a good turnout from the United supporters to give us a strong start to the year.
