Brisbane Roar won just their second home match of the season on Thursday night after defeating an industrious Perth Glory side 3-2 courtesy of goals from Avraam Papadopoulos, Ivan Franjic and Brett Holman.

Brisbane got off to a dream start in the opening five minutes after Papadopoulos coasted in at the back post to volley home Fahid Ben Khalfallah’s deflected freekick for the Greek’s fourth goal of the season.

The early ascendency was short lived however with Chris Harold smashing home the first equaliser of the match for Perth off the back of a delightful Diego Castro through ball.

Chances were flying left right and centre with both sides playing unstructured and desperate football.

Franjic was on hand to head home the Roar’s second set-piece goal of the night shortly after half time, again Ben Khalfallah the provider from another peach of a free kick delivery.

In a case of deja vu Brisbane’s advantage once again lasted just minutes as Perth materialised another equalising goal through Harold.

Substitute Callum Timmins played in Andy Keogh with a delightful dinked pass for the Irishman to cut back sharply for Harold to bury home from close range as Perth dragged back the game to 2-2.

In a see-sawing affair it was Brisbane who inched ahead and grabbed the go-ahead goal for the third time on the night.

Massimo Maccarone cooly picked out Holman crashing into the box to finish in the bottom right corner sending the small Brisbane crowd into hysterics.

Maccarone himself should’ve sealed the win moments later only to be denied by the crossbar after a piece of brilliance from the Italian.

Perth had a late chance to grab another equaliser but they too were to be denied by the woodwork in a bizarre passage of play in Brisbane’s defensive area.

Roar’s fourth home win of the season sees them now sitting just three points away from the top six as they head to Central Coast for next week’s Saturday night fixture.

Glory host Western Sydney Wanderers at home next round with Kenny Lowe and his side hoping to end a frustrating six-game slide in which they have conceded 17 goals.
