Sydney FC extended their undefeated record at Allianz Stadium to 26 matches with a routine 4-0 victory over Wellington Phoenix in their Friday night encounter.

The league leaders cruised to victory over the basement outfit with Sydney trio Alex Brosque, Adrian Mierzejewski and Milos Ninkovic getting on the score sheet for Graham Arnold’s side.

Phoenix’s defensive errors provided the hosts with the early lead while they failed to threaten the league’s best defence without leading goal scorer Andrija Kaludjerovic on the pitch.

Sydney’s first venture into Wellington’s half produced a goal as Brosque pounced on the miscommunication between Marco Rossi and Lewis Italiano to give the hosts the lead.

Graham Arnold’s side doubled the lead just over five minutes later when Mierzejewski slotted past Italiano to score his ninth goal of the campaign after Brosque won back possession in the middle of the park following a mix up between Phoenix captain Andrew Durante and Goran Paracki.

Mierzejewski came close to scoring a brace after he broke through the visitors’ defence before his shot struck the body of the Wellington goalkeeper.

The Pole threatened again with a threatening free kick on the half hour mark which left Italiano scrambling to deny Sydney their third goal of the evening.

The A-League champions dominated early proceedings in the second half as Jordy Buijs came close for the Sky Blues. The Dutch defender provided another option for his side in the attacking third as they kept the ball pinned in the visitor’s half.

Brazilian striker Bobo found himself in space for the hosts just after the hour mark however the 33-year-old was unable to provide the finishing touch after a last-minute scramble from Dylan Fox released the pressure on the Phoenix.

Wellington’s best opportunity of the match came when Michael McGlinchey’s close range strike produced a save from Andrew Redmayne.

The Sky Blues extended their lead after Ninkovic swooped on Daniel Mullen’s error to slide the ball past the Phoenix custodian.

David Carney scored his side’s fourth goal of the encounter late on as he connected with Aaron Calver’s cross to round off a dominant performance from the reigning champions.
