Brisbane Roar wrapped up a record equalling third Westfield W-League premiership thanks to a 4-1 win over Canberra United in front of 4,225 people at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

An Abbey Lloyd double was added to by goals from Hayley Raso and Emily Gielnik to secure the result for the hosts who will face Melbourne City in next weekend’s semi final.

With title rivals Sydney FC winning 4-1 in their clash against Western Sydney Wanderers Roar required at least a point to claim the Premier’s Plate.

A goal by Raso in the 12th minute settled any nerves the home side may have had coming into the clash.

Raso pounced on a loose ball in the area from a Carson Pickett corner scrambling her effort past Haley Kopmeyer into the bottom corner to give Roar the lead.

From there the Roar continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded in the 40th minute when Gielnik slammed home Pickett’s corner at the near post to send the hosts into the break two goals to the good.

Lloyd put the result beyond doubt in the 70th minute when she picked up a stray back pass before streaking away from the Canberra defence and comfortably finishing past Kopmeyer.

A stunning strike from Elise Thorsnes pulled one back for the hosts five minutes later with the Norwegian smashing a volley into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Lloyd rounded out the 4-1 score line in stoppage time with her second of the night, the forward smashed her initial effort against the crossbar before reacting first and rocketing the rebound into the back of the net.

The win sees the Roar finish the regular season atop the league table, three-points clear of second place Sydney FC.

The Westfield W-League finals series kicks off next weekend with Brisbane Roar hosting Melbourne City  in a rematch of the 2016 grand final while Sydney FC take on Newcastle Jets.
