Sydney FC made light work of Adelaide United as they cruised to victory with a 3-0 win at Allianz Stadium on Sunday night.

Sydney proved that their midweek 4-1 win over Suwon Bluewings was not a fluke showing as they secured their 19th win of the season and cemented themselves as one of the best clubs in A-League history.

The visitors were the first side to threaten the Sky Blues’ goal with Johan Absalonsen flashing wide from close range after receiving the cross from Tarek Elrich.

Sydney’s began to test the opposition towards the end of the first half when Matt Simon shielded the ball from Taylor Regan before turning the defender and producing a save from Paul Izzo.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, Adrian Mierzejewski had the best opportunity of the half when he scuffed his header over the goal despite being put under little pressure by the Reds’ defence.

The Pole made up for his point-blank miss only minutes later when he turned provider for Simon whose header flashed past Izzo to give the hosts the lead on the stroke of half time.

The Sky Blues dominated throughout the beginning of the second half and doubled their lead just before the hour mark when stand-in captain Bobo popped up to slot his header into the Adelaide goal.

The A-League’s leading goal scorer added to his tally just over minutes later as he struck the ball into the bottom corner when the ball fell to him after a deflection off the visitors’ defence.

Serbian playmaker almost got his name on the scoresheet with 20 minutes remaining when his header narrowly sailed over the crossbar.

Graham Arnold’s men remained in cruise control for the majority of the second half with Mierzejewski who created plenty of chances and opportunities for the hosts as they looked to close out the game in spectacular fashion.
