It’s getting to that time of the year again. Perth have clinched the premiership and finals are on the horizon.

Perth have dominated the league this season en route to their first ever piece of A-League silverware. But will Tony Popovic’s men make it a premiership and championship double?

And what does the A-League’s history reveal about premiership-winning teams going on to win the Grand Final?

We’ve done the stats for you, with some rather unsurprising results.

Out of the 13 A-League seasons so far, a team has finished second on the ladder and gone on to win the Grand Final four times.

Only once, in the 2017/18 season, has a team claimed the Championship from fourth position (Melbourne Victory). And since the A-League’s inception, the premiership winners have gone on to cement their dominance in the Grand Final.

eight teams have finished first on the table, and also won the Grand Final.
