I’m not going to lie: the odds are against Sydney FC.

The Sky Blues have had to compete in the AFC Champions League mid-way through the finals series, and a number of players including Alex Brosque, Rhyan Grant and Dutch marquee Siem de Jong are looking tender after coming back from injuries.

Despite that, this star studded squad are going to take out the Championship. Read below for the top four reasons why they’ll make it all the way this season.

1. Players in form

Sydney FC are known for being a club with great individual players within their set-up. This year is no different, with a number of superstars in form right now, including Milos Ninkovic. This one man alone could change the outcome of the whole campaign for the Sky Blues. He’s arguably the best player in the competition, with the vision and finesse to change a game in an instant. It’s stars like him who rise to the big occasions: if the Serbian shows up when it matters most, Sydney FC will be unstoppable.

Rhyan Grant has also been in form all season, driving the competition crazy with his work ethic and tireless running along the sideline. Although the Socceroo incurred a hamstring strain two weeks ago, he’s set to return in time for this weekend’s semi-final against the Victory.

With Grant and a few others coming back from injury this week, the Sky Blues have almost returned to a full strength squad. They’ve got the numbers and they’ve got the quality to bring home the trophy.

2. Super coach Steve Corica

Corica has faced numerous challenges this season; players receiving unexpected injuries, balancing the A-League with the AFC Champions League, and filling the big shoes of Graham Arnold. But Corica has stepped up and managed to face each adversity with composure and confidence.

His tactics have been crucial to his team’s success so far this season, and he’s managed to keep his players fresh and motivated despite their hectic schedule. Corica knows how to best utilise his players for each game, and he knows when to blood his new, younger players too.

He’s a coach that players look up to and respect: the type of coach you want to win for. Under his guidance, the Sky Blues are ready to win the Championship for the fourth time.

3. They’ll do it for Alex

The skipper is making this season his last, and he’ll be aiming to finish his career on a high. With this year locked in as the final hurrah, the boys will want to send their captain off on a good note. After a minor heel injury, it’s likely that if Brosque makes an appearance against Melbourne Victory on Sunday, or in the Grand Final, it’ll be from the bench. He’s just the thing that Sydney FC need to give them the extra motivation to take it all the way.

4. They’ve got a point to prove

The first final Sydney will play is against Melbourne Victory: a replay of last season’s semi-final, where the Victory won in extra-time, and went on to win the Grand Final. After being defeated last season, Sydney have a point to prove: that they’re better than their Big Blue counterparts. With the hurt from last season alongside the confidence they’ve gained from this season, there’s no reason why the Sky Blues can’t beat any team in this finals series.
