The Brisbane Roar have trounced Gold Coast United 4-0 at Suncorp Stadium tonight in front of 20,831 spectators.
Thomas Boich blasted home the final goal which was selflessly handed to him by Matt McKay who showed his experience in front of goal.
It was the first A-League game played at Suncorp since the recent Queensland floods.
The scars of the floods were there for all to see as red tape was used on the goals to mark the height the water had risen to.
Kostas Barbarouses got proceedings underway in the fourth minute, which was the beginning of a busy night for the Kiwi international.
Barbarouses neatly held the ball up and skirted defenders before sharply putting it into the top left hand corner of the goal.
He continued to prove a handful for the Gold Coast defence after almost putting a second one through after only eight minutes of play.
However, the Gold Coast were also making their presence felt, Zenon Caravella forcing Roar ‘keeper Michael Theoklitos to stretch with a gutsy drive from the edge of the box.
Erik Paartalu blasted home a scorching volley from Thomas Broich which is being touted as one of the goals of the year.
Paartalu came forward from the midfield and put pay to his enigmatic status.
Gold Coast came out of the sheds after the break with intent as they lined up a couple of shots from long range, most notably by Shane Smeltz who forced Theoklitos to parry the drive over the cross-bar.
The Roar however, continued to turn the screws on the side they’ve never beaten.
Henrique, a crowd favourite drove one home after a deflection sat up perfectly for him, much to the delight of The Den.
Michael Theoklitos set the record for the most clean sheets in an A-league season, he was replaced by Andrew Redmayne, and given a well deserved ovation on his way to the bench.
The Roar have proved they’re the best side week in week out, however, their performance tonight was exceptionally crisp, and should send further shivers down the spines of would be finals challengers.
Although the Roar hoisted the premiership plate this evening, both sides enter the finals with good form.
