Stalemate in Wellington

-

An unadventurous second-half has produced a 1-1 draw between Wellington and Brisbane at Westpac Stadium.

Belgian striker Stein Huysegems handed Wellington a deserved lead in the 16th minute when he collected Louis Fenton’s knock-down in the penalty area and clinically finished past Michael Theo.

Mark Paston twice denied Brisbane an equaliser prior to half-time with point-blank saves from Besart Berisha and Mitch Nichols, but the gloveman was unable to deny the visitors a third time as Berisha neatly clipped Massimo Murdocca’s intuitive through ball over the onrushing ‘keeper in the 39th minute.

Glimpses at goal were the best either side could manage from a subdued second period as the two top-six teams both looked content to settle for a point.
