Melbourne Heart debutant Golgol Mebrahtu sent the crowd into raptures after a 88th minute winner over Perth Glory in the Hyundai A-League.
While it was a red hot day in Melbourne, the action on the pitch was far from that in the first half. Both sides had early chances in the first half yet failed to capitalise on their opportunities.
Goalkeepers Danny Vukovic and Clint Bolton were kept on their toes during the first half with Nick Kalmar and Shane Smeltz doing their best to trouble the defence. Kalmar had two long range shots at goal blocked by Vukovic while Smeltz could not believe his luck when two of his shots at goal sailed just wide of the uprights.
Heart fans were clearly restless after a scoreless first half, urging players to shoot at every opportunity. Heart captain Fred tried desperately to please the fans but both of his shots sailing wide of the goals before being substituted for debutant Golgol Mebrahtu.
The substitute latched onto a wonderful through ball from Josip Tadic and rolled the ball beautifully past Glory keeper Danny Vukovic. The 1-0 victory pleasing the fans in red and white.
