The Sack names Brazil 2014 preliminary squad

-

The Football Sack’s producer, Dave, today named the seven-man preliminary squad for the Brazil 2014 Podcast.

Jack Quigley and Christian Layland are a step closer to representing The Football Sack at two straight World Cup podcasts while the seven-man squad contains two uncapped players, James Clark and Brad Hutchings, and has an average age of 27.2.

Dave showed his belief in the rapidly-expanding Far North Coast by naming three locally-based players with five members of the seven-man squad having visited the region at least once.

The squad will begin arriving in tomorrow (Saturday) for a pre-World Cup boot camp in Byron Bay and Ballina before driving to Lismore on 12 June where they will face defending FFDU Champions Around the Bloc, 2013/4 FFDU runners up The A-League Show and New Zealand danger side In the Zone (Yellow Fever).

“We’re excited to announce the preliminary seven-man squad for the Brazil 2014 Podcast,” Dave said.

“We’ve selected a squad we believe will represent the people of Australia with pride on the biggest stage in world podcasting.

“The squad has been selected with comedy and insight as key indicators as well as having one eye on the future.

“We face a formidable challenge living up to previous achievements but it is also a big opportunity and we head to the studio with no barriers as we look to write a new chapter in our rich podcasting history.”

The Football Sack will trim the squad to five after the team listens to some rival podcasts before the final three-man squad will be named on 10 June.

“We’ve named seven players for the camp and will leave Byron with five before cutting the squad to three before the first episode but we want all seven players and the staff to get a meaningful experience out of the camps and local pubs,” Dave said.

“We want the camp to be competitive to make sure the training intensity is as high as possible as players strive to make the final three squad but everyone is equally important as we also have one eye on the future.”
