A-League clubs should be lining up to sign Bachelorette star Michael Turnbull

-

Football fans will be happy to see that former ‘Socceroo’ Michael Turnbull, perhaps better known for his time on The Bachelorette, is back in the news cycle.

The goalkeeper has put himself up for bid on eBay, with the highest bidder scoring a dinner date with the man himself. Here is why A-League clubs would be missing a trick if they didn’t put in a bid for his services themselves.

He’s got the experience

Turnbull certainly has the runs on the board. While he may not have ended up playing for the Socceroos or at the 2000 Olympics like he claimed on national television, Turnbull has been around. He’s played in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, New Zealand and Belgium as well as had supposed stints at Bristol City and AS Roma.

There was even a recent contract offer from an unnamed Bundesliga club.

He has only ended up playing around six professional games in his career. He didn’t get so much top flight playing experience as he did life experience but it all counts right?

He’s a good luck charm

The last time we saw Turnbull in the football world was in April of this year. He was signed as cover by the Melbourne Victory heading into the 2015 Finals Series.

He may have failed to add any more professional minutes to his resume but he was still part of the squad that would go on to capture the Hyundai A-League Championship.

That can’t be a coincidence.

Media savvy

Nothing works better for a club’s image than getting in good with the journalists tasked with covering them. He has experience on television, he’s as charming (good looking) as they come and takes a hell of a selfie. He’s a pro.

Marketable

Every club in the league is always looking to get more bodies through the gates and they could lure in even more female fans if they can snag Turnbull. One article summed him up well, saying “he’s good-looking, he’s got a killer body (complete with a Beckham-style tattoo sleeve), he dresses well” and… that’s about it.

Playing ability

He got all the way to the final two of The Bachelorette and almost snagged Sam Frost’s heart. You’ve got to be pretty smooth to be able to accomplish that. The guy sure has a good game.

The A-League might not take the opportunity but if you want the chance to dine with Michael Turnbull and put some money towards a great cause (Joey Lynch Charity) there are still four days to bid.
