Henrique scored just minutes after coming on for his first appearance in seven months to hand Brisbane Roar a 1-0 win over Perth Glory.

The late winner brought the “Slippery Fish” to tears as he handed his club a deserved victory against a rugged Glory side at Suncorp Stadium.

The Roar had control early on and etched out the first chance of the contest but Brandon Borrello couldn’t dig Thomas Broich’s delightful curling ball out of his feet in time to shoot.

With twenty minutes gone, Jamie Young surged out of his box but escaped punishment even as he looked to make contract with Guyon Fernandez as they competed for a header well outside the keeper’s box.

Dimi Petratos came closest to scoring the opener as he got some time on the ball, picked out his spot and curled a left footed shot that clattered the bar.

The midfielder couldn’t do any better with a much easier opportunity.

Brandon Borrello left fullback Marc Warren on his backside near the corner flag before he squared a ball into that box that Petratos should have converted after his late run.

Perth almost took an unlikely lead on the stroke of half time through Warren but he was too slow to get his shot away after being found at the back post by Fernandez’s cross.

Heading into the second term it was Brisbane in full control as Perth sat back without much conviction and it seemed like only a matter of time before the Roar grabbed a goal.

Petratos had come the closest to opening the scoring but almost gifted a goal to Perth at the other end with his loose header back to Young almost being gobbled up by Richard Garcia.

Jamie Young was forced into action 20 minutes from the final whistle, having to get down low to deny Michael Thwaite from distance.

That elusive goal would finally come for Brisbane four minutes later as new signing Javier Hervas set up Henrique, fresh off the bench, with his first ever touch for his new club.

The Spaniard flicked it both over his head and over the Perth defence through to the onrushing Henrique, who nudged it past the advancing Covic.

Petratos was close to adding a second late on but he struck the woodwork for the second time with a stunning strike.

More tears were almost spilled around Suncorp but Jamie Young did well to deny Nebojsa Marinkovic a late winner from a free kick.

The Brazilian’s goal pushes Brisbane two points clear at the top of the Hyundai A-League table while Perth fall to their fourth loss in five games.
