5 ways to support the heck out of your team

-

As we delve deeper into another season of Australian football, we’re all beginning to get some time off work, finish school or uni, and have more time to devote to football.

So that means that you should read this how-to guide on supporting your club and team this summer. Print it out and memorise it, pocket it and show all your friends on social media. Make sure you tag your club too though… “Omg, best guide ever for supporting @favouriteclub for this season, see y’all at the game!”. Go forth and support!

Go to the games you nonce

Hurry, don’t be late! Get to the ground, chant things, appraise the referee kindly for his decisions, and let your favourite player know what you think of him sending it into Row Z. You can’t have much more fun than standing meekly in the wind and biting rain yelling until you’re hoarse, and it’s even better when they win.

Wear the colours like a full kit wanker

Doesn’t matter what it is; an official kit that you threw your paycheck at, or the slightly off-colour plasticky feeling polo your mate picked up for you in Bali. Throw on your colours and be a part of the action. Wear the shorts as well, there’s no shame in being parodied mercilessly on Twitter; just do it.

Avoid retail and buy merch at the ground

A club’s official store is the best way to financially support your team after buying your season membership. Whether you buy an official kit, a scarf or even just a stubby holder, all of it is perfect for cheering on your club.

Social media the shit out of it

You already do and we all know, there’s no shame in it. But instead of ‘gramming your #fitspo omelette, save the post for when you’re at the game, and tag the club in it. Don’t forget a wonderful filter, and then share it everywhere. Like and share your club on Facebook, whether your friends like it or not, and retweet everything they say on Twitter to show you’re a true fanny.

Support their dodgy sponsors

You know type, the insurance company whose ads you routinely turn off the TV for, who give you a good deal for using the code ‘GoTeam’ or something else cringe-worthy. If they want a reason to put their illegitimate funds into your club, then give it to them. Even if they are the most boring brand you’ve ever heard of.
