Who should the Wanderers sign in January?

-

It has been a stuttering start to the A-League season for Western Sydney Wanderers and with the Asian Champions League around the corner a new signing would seem to be a necessity.

With a misfiring frontline, a shaky defence and uncertainty in goals; the red and black could benefit from recruits in various positions.

The question is: who would be a Christmas gift the club desperately needs and who would be a piece of coal?

Up Front

One thing the Wanderers have been short of in front of goals this season is luck and who better than to bring some than Irish legend Robbie Keane?

Without a club after leaving LA Galaxy, the 36-year-old was too expensive for Brisbane Roar but could well be worth a pot of gold for the red and black.

With stamina inspired by a great work ethic and leadership the club seems to be lacking, Keane would be invaluable to the side.

Another legendary striker in need of a club is Dimitar Berbatov and while undoubtedly a prolific striker, Berbatov is a man the Wanderers should avoid buying.

Unlike Keane, this former Manchester United striker hasn’t got the work ethic of the Irishman and hasn’t played since June after leaving a relatively unsuccessful stint with PAOK.

At The Back

While the Wanderers defence has steadily been improving, they were dismantled almost single-handedly by Besart Berisha last Saturday night and could use some reinforcing.

Matthew Spiranovic was once the anchor of a rock solid backline and with his Chinese club now relegated to the second division and a World Cup looming, he’s in desperate need of some stability his old club could offer him.

Though his salary may be a barrier to large to overcome, Spiranovic’s return to Western Sydney would be a Christmas dream come true for many.

In Goals

Both Andrew Redmayne and Jerrad Tyson have failed to make the number one position their own this season and a new keeper could well prove beneficial.

Current Sydney FC keeper Vedran Janjetovic is firmly on the club’s radar with goalkeeping coach Zeljko Kalac keen to recruit a player who isn’t happy he’s no longer the starting keeper with the Sky Blues.

While undoubtedly a strong keeper, the fact he comes from a rival club means he may be a present fans are reluctant to accept.
