I cant quite put a finger on what happened but there was no desire or willingness to win battles, no fluency in our play and as a result of that there wasn’t three points at full time.
As a team we have reflected on the game, watched the game back and assessed where we need to improve. But we also took positives out of the game where we could. Now we move on to Newcastle on Saturday!
For the first time all pre season we have finally got our full squad together this week.
Lisa De Vanna and Angelique Hristodoulou are back from suspension and our four Young Matildas are ready to go.

Having our Young Matildas back will give us stronger depth and puts everyone on edge to keep their positions and encourages everyone to perform every training and every game.
Ante Juric has a tough decision this week regarding our starting 11 and also who will be on the bench to come on. I don’t envy his job this week!!
Newcastle are coming off a very good win against WSW. A 2-1 will give them lots of confidence going into Saturday’s game.
Having someone like Emily Van Egmond dictating play in the middle of the park is an aspect that I think definitely won them the game last week. She’s someone we will definitely have to turn up to compete with if we want to win this weekend!
Personally, I think if we win our battles, play fluent attacking football and turn up for the full 90 we will give ourselves a very good chance to take three points back to Sydney.
Newcastle looked good, they will be confident; we know as a team we need to bounce back so Saturdays match will be a very competitive and intense game.
We are looking forward to it!
