Sydney run rampant in Brisbane

-

Sydney FC dominated from start to finish on Monday night to run out 3-0 victors over Brisbane in another crushing display from the reigning champions.

The win extends their undefeated record to 9 games on the bounce whilst extending their league leading advantage to 11 points after just 15 rounds.

A-League golden boot leader Bobo opened the scoring for the Sky Blue in the first half after a delightful passage of play between star men Adrian Mierzejewski and Milos Ninkovic found the Brazilian striker sliding in at the far post to tap home neatly.

Mierzejewski then joined the goal scoring party in the second half with a touch a sublime quality and class.

The dynamic Polish star found himself free on the edge of the box and with Brisbane players backing off was simply allowed to march forward and place a peach of a low-curling shot into the bottom left corner.

Just minutes later Mierzejewski again had the ball in the back of the net but had to halt celebrations after VAR cancelled out the goal with Alex Brosque ruled to have been in a offside position during the lead-up.

Things began to unravel for the Roar rapidly after Mierzejewski broke the offside trap and looked for all money set to be scoring Sydney’s third until a charging Jamie Young outside of his box made a desperate sliding tackle to thwart the Sky Blue’s opportunity.

Young’s defiance in goal only delayed the inevitable however as David Carney capped off a dominant exhibition put on by Sydney late on, tapping home a rebound from close range.

Brisbane struggled to find any groove during the match, routinely turning over possession from within their first half and looked devoid of any true shape or tactical plan in another disappointing home performance from the Roar.

Brisbane must regroup quickly as they travel to the dangerous Newcastle Jets for their Friday night fixture to kick off Round 16.

Ladder leaders Sydney travel to Coopers Stadium to face Adelaide United on Sunday night.
