The convincing 4-0 win against Wellington Phoenix at the start of February extended a run of 13 matches unbeaten for Sydney FC, who continue to dominate the 2017-18 A-League campaign in their quest for back-to-back titles. It begs the question: can anyone catch them this season?
Impressively nine points clear of nearest rivals Newcastle Jets in second spot, before Sydney FC travel to take on third-placed Melbourne Victory, they are enjoying an unbeatable vein of form which looks set to continue throughout what remains of the regular season.
It almost seems like a foregone conclusion that they’ll collect the Premier’s Plate in April, and Sydney FC are also A-League Trophy football betting favourites at $1.72 odds, with clear expectations of continuing their dominance into the Finals Series. Just like last season, the Allianz Stadium trophy cabinet looks set to be brimming with silverware at the end of the current campaign.

Thus far, only Central Coast Mariners have managed to provide any stubborn resistance, inflicting the only defeat the Sky Blues have suffered, winning the November meeting 2-0 between the two sides at the Central Coast Stadium. In the return fixture more recently in January, the Mariners frustrated their hosts by grabbing a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium.
Otherwise, it’s been full steam ahead for Sydney FC, with 14 victories out of 19 encounters during the regular season, plus by far the best attacking and defensive numbers, scoring 46 goals amidst numerous convincing wins and maintaining a robust defence, conceding just 14.
Indeed, it’s difficult to imagine the side managed by Graham Arnold being genuinely derailed from their objectives, anytime soon.
“Some of the football was the best we’ve played since I’ve been at Sydney,” stated Arnold, following the 4-0 thrashing of Wellington Phoenix, delighted by the ruthless attacking performance produced by his side, and equally satisfied with keeping a clean sheet. Indeed, it was another dominant display indicative of a team which remains hungry for success under his managerial guidance.

The outstanding marksman for Sydney FC has once again been experienced Brazilian striker, Bobô, who has registered a phenomenal 18 goals in 19 league games this season, already surpassing the 15 goals in 29 games he netted during the previous 2016-17 campaign. However, his efforts are also backed up by scoring contributions from other teammates and impressively, throughout the side.
Polish attacking midfielder Adrian Mierzejewski has weighed in with nine goals in 16 appearances, experienced central midfielder Alex Brosque has contributed four more, whilst even left-back David Carney has struck four goals with his marauding forward runs. Add to those three goals by Serbian midfielder Milos Ninkovic from his deeper role in midfield, and scoring contributions from practically every position in the team, Sydney FC are a side which can produce goals from almost anywhere.
Such potency from back to front most certainly makes Sydney FC the team to beat, as they cruise towards matching the record of 3 regular season Premiers titles held by Melbourne Victory, and potentially, exclusively claiming a record-breaking feat of 4 A-League Trophy titles, to surpass the three apiece they currently share with Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar.
