E-League players you should actually care about

-

Three things are certain in life: death, taxes and a new Australian football league taking up a letter of the alphabet (looking at you B).

The E-League kicks off tonight in ground-breaking fashion as Fox Sports Australia and Twitch broadcast the first round of matches live.

Two players – one Xbox user and one PS4 user – make up each club in an intriguing format that will see many of the best FIFA players in Australia pitted against each other.

But which athletes should you be keeping in mind as the E-League captures the imagination of a nation?

We have you covered.

James Williams ‘iCripsy’

Respected as one of the leaders in Australia’s competitive FIFA scene, James was signed by Brisbane Roar in the recent draft.

Williams has built a tremendous following on Twitch in the eight months since he entered the platform, with his profile CripsyTV accumulating over 10000 followers.

A heavy campaigner and continued presence for the E-League on social media, Cripsy comes up against another high-profile player in the opening Xbox match this evening…

Mitch Austin ‘ALCATRAZZ_2025’

The man that currently possesses both an A-League and E-League contract cannot be ignored.

The Melbourne Victory winger was signed by his on-field club at the draft after rupturing his ACL late last year.

Having locked himself in to his own XI (you must have three players from your current squad in your FIFA Ultimate Team), the 26-year-old is a substantial underdog in the match against Williams; Austin switched consoles to Xbox just last year.

Interestingly enough, his sister Brittany Austin works for EA Sports and will be hosting each E-League event for Fox Sports Australia!

Jamie O’Doherty ‘FUTWIZ Jamie’

Perhaps the most storied E-League character so far, O’Doherty is a serious talent on FIFA.

Still chasing his dream to play in the A-League with his brother Jordan, Jamie won the inaugural FIFA 18 tournament in Melbourne to demonstrate a hint of his ability on the Xbox.

Often at the forefront of FIFA Ultimate Team [FUT] discussions on Twitter, the younger of the two brothers will look to deliver Adelaide United their first ever victory in the format when he lines up against the Mariners’ Matthew ‘StrawHat Camels’ Camilleri.

Marcus Gomes ‘SoccerStar00777’

One of the only players signed before the draft, Melbourne City’s Gomes is regarded as one of the best FUT players in Australia and makes a formidable combination with Josh ‘Joshingwood’ Wood in one of the strongest line-ups on paper.

Having played in the FIFA Interactive World Cup Grand Final as the only Australian competitor last August, the 20-year-old Xbox player will hope to stamp his authority on the opening E-League season.

That all begins against Sydney FC’s Samer ‘Samer96_’ Elbadar.

Honourable Mentions

Expect strong tournaments from the likes of Josh Wood, Christian ‘Fweshest’ Bartolillo (Wellington Phoenix), Peter Saisanas (Perth Glory) and Zachary ‘vDreamz-Shoorter’ May-Burgess (Adelaide United).

They all make up a seriously competitive field in the PS4 division, whilst Joseph ‘OhNoAGoat’ Nassar (Western Sydney Wanderers) adds to the prestige of the Xbox division, with all four athletes profiled above calling the Microsoft console home.
