Optus Sports’ Social Media guy didn’t sign up for this last night

-

Mark Lee was the unfortunate soul rostered on to send out some tweets and drive up brand engagement for Optus Sports last night as he faced the wrath of some of the most aggressive (ed note: “passionate”) sports fans on Twitter during the Egypt vs Uruguay World Cup game.

“Fucking Rod put me on last night, I bet he knew what he was doing” said Lee.

Putting on a brave face he tweeted that Optus had acknowledged that, “some” football fans were having issues and offered some vague and unhelpful solutions, further infuriating an already-infuriated-by-default sports fanbase.

“I’m not a fucking IT guy, I don’t know how servers work” he shrugged.

“I’m not even into sports, I just lied about being a, ‘football’ fan on my resume because nobody could question my expertise if I was raving about an obscure South American talent at lunch.

“I just wanted to look at Twitter all day at a desk for money” said Lee.

Optus Sports Middle Marketing Manager Rod Barnes reportedly does not know of the trauma Mark Lee went through last night as he prefers to watch “real men’s sport”, though he remarked that his “KPIs for social media engagement were the best that the company had ever seen.”
