Perth had the match’s first decisive chance in the 9th minute, Rachel Hill striking the crossbar with a shot which came very close to crossing the line.
Brisbane’s first half played out much the same as the men’s last week, with multiple chances created but little end product.
Their best chance of the first half was skied by Katrina Gorry in the 27th minute after an excellent run of play from Chioma Ubogagu.
Ubogagu was the Roar’s best on field all match, utilising a degree of positional freedom to run circles around Perth’s defence.
Both teams started the second half strong, with Perth’s Alyssa Mautz bagging the match’s first goal in the 53rd minute.
Chances became scarce as the half dragged on, with a brain fade from Roar goalkeeper Elli Chapple nearly gifting Rachel Hill an open net in which she was unable to finish.
The Roar finally found their goal-scoring touch in the 88th minute, with Carson Pickett’s strike proving too much for Perth’s Eliza Campbell.
It was an exciting match for W-League die-hards, with a total of 6 players making their league debuts.
Highly-touted signing Jenna McCormick also made her team debut for the Roar.
The Roar will be disappointed to have not done better today, as their performance was often deserving of it. Pickett’s late goal has saved their efforts from being a complete waste though.
