Another Brisbane Roar match, another late goal – the hosts snatching a 2-1 win against Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium.
Brisbane started the match off the best way they know how – with a booking – Luke De Vere shown yellow before the first minute had even elapsed for pulling down Reza Ghoochannejhad.
It proved to be a costly mistake for De Vere, the injury-stricken centre back tweaking his knee in the challenge. He was eventually substituted in the 11th minute.
The visitors missed a gifted chance to take the lead in the 20th minute, Milos Ninkovic shown an empty net by the Brisbane defence. He skied his opportunity however.
Brisbane’s injury woes continued, Jack Hingert making way in the 29th after also seeming to injure his knee.
In a positive story for the hosts, this allowed Izaack Powell to make his debut – the youth team product Brisbane’s youngest ever A-League player, at just 16 years and 361 days old.
Sydney opened the scoring in the second half, Daniel De Silva finding the back of the net in the 55th minute off a parried Adam Le Fondre shot.
Brisbane answered back in the 77th minute, Tobias Mikkelsen beating Andrew Redmayne at the near post with a vicious strike.
This set the stage for Dylan Wenzel Halls, the young striker burying the ball into the top corner in the 90th minute.
This proved to be the deciding goal for the hosts, Brisbane seeing out the win.
