Reds hopes dented as Ilsø suspended

-

Adelaide United player Ken Ilsø has been suspended by Football Federation Australia under their National Anti-Doping policy.

The provisional ban comes after tests found Benzoylecgonine in his A-Sample which was taken on 27 Janurary, according to some outlets.

Benzoylecgonine is a linked to cocaine and banned by the World Anti Doping Authority (WADA) and the FFA due to their National Anti-Doping Policy.

Adelaide United released a media release earlier today confirming the ban and outlining the situation.

“Adelaide United fully supports the policies of FFA and the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA),” Adelaide United Chief Executive Officer, Nathan Kosmina, said in the statement.

“We have and will continue to work proactively with both organisations and provide necessary support to Ken as due process is undertaken.

“As the matter currently sits with FFA and ASADA for investigation, we are not able to comment further.

“Nevertheless, Adelaide United recognises the significance of the matter and wants to ensure our members, fans, and stakeholders that we will treat this with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity.

“We ask that commentary on this situation also shows sensitivity to the issues involved.”

Ken Ilsø, via a Professional Footballers Australia release, had this to say:

“To all my fans, team mates, friends and family. I have been notified by the PFA regarding the Adverse Analytical Finding.

“I am working closely with the PFA regarding my situation and awaiting the results from the B test.

“Until these results are received I cannot make any further comments. I would like to thank the PFA for their support in this testing and frustrating situation.”

“To our fans, please ensure the focus is on the team. It is a critical time in our season and they need you most of all.

All parties will await the resuts of a B-Sample, which if found positive, could see Ilsø recieve a Anti-Doping rule violation.

Ilsø will be unavilable for selection at United while the provisional ban is in place, which may impact his chances of getting a contract extension past this season following an underwhelming campaign.
