Each A-League side’s best and worst away records

Away games. Against some teams, they are nightmares, against others they are gold mines.

We’ll take a look at every team’s regular away games from 2015/16 through to 2018/19, to figure out where teams succeed and where teams failed.

Let us get this party started but if you are a Central Coast Mariners fan, look away now.

Adelaide United

Best away record: Central Coast Mariners

Worst away record: Sydney FC

Adelaide have enjoyed their trips to the coast in recent years, winning five of their games away to the Mariners, whilst losing just one, and collecting fifteen points in the process.

On the flip side, the Reds’ record in Sydney is nothing to write home about with just a win, a draw and four losses since the beginning of 2015/16.

Best away record:  Central Coast Mariners

Worst away record: Melbourne City

Brisbane manages to outdo Adelaide by having a better record in the Coast, winning five and drawing none. That is a scary record for Brisbane and speaks volumes about the Mariners in recent years.

However, Brisbane have a poor record away to Melbourne City. Having secured just two points there over the past four seasons.

Central Coast Mariners

Best away record:  Newcastle Jets, Wellington Phoenix (tied)

Worst away record: Perth Glory, Melbourne City (tied)

They broke the system here because you can not have your favourite away trip be the Mariners if you are the Mariners.

Six points is the best the Mariners could muster from their six trips to both Newcastle and Wellington.

The Mariners have managed six losses in their six visits to City to secure zero points.

Their record away to Perth is the exact same between 2015/16 to 2018/19, with zero points.

Best away record:  Adelaide United

Worst away record: Western Sydney Wanderers

Melbourne City have found their trips to South Australia to be the most enjoyable with four wins, a draw and a loss seeing them collect 13 points from their six trips to Adelaide.

Compared to other sides, City’s worst away record is not too shabby but City will be disappointed with just four points from their six trips to Sydney’s west.

Melbourne Victory

Best away record:  Western Sydney Wanderers

Worst away record: Sydney FC, Perth Glory (tied)

While their cross-town neighbours may despise the trip to Western Sydney, it’s the trip that Victory love. Four wins, a draw and a loss, give Victory 13 points in Wanderland.

Victory’s worst away records over the past four seasons is a testament to the club. Six points away to Perth and Sydney are not bad for their least favourite away trip, it’s the same amount of points the Mariners have earned on their best away trips.

Newcastle Jets

Best away record: Central Coast Mariners

Worst away record: Sydney FC

The Mariners are the Jets’ favourite hunting ground. Five wins and a singular loss to their F3 rivals means the Mariners once again take the crown of being a teams favourite away trip.

Newcastle also dislike their trips to Sydney, with one draw and five defeats under their belt.

Perth Glory

Best away record: Adelaide United

Worst away record: Western Sydney Wanderers

Glory’s excursions to Adelaide have recorded a respectable 10 points in their six games there.

They detest their trips to Western Sydney though, with no wins, three draws and three losses over the past four seasons.

Sydney FC

Best away record: Wellington Phoenix

Worst away record: Brisbane Roar

Sydney find the trans-Tasman trip the most enjoyable, with four wins and two draws in their past trips to Wellington. They have been unbeaten in New Zealand over the last four seasons.

Sydney’s least favourite trip shows how good they have been. Their worst record is in Brisbane with two of each possible result – two wins, two draws and two losses.

Wellington Phoenix

Best away record: Central Coast Mariners

Worst away record: Melbourne City

The Phoenix take us back to normal as we finally have another team that enjoys going to the Central Coast the most. The Nix’s recorded eight points, with two wins, two draws and two losses in six matches.

Both the Nix and the Mariners have a record of zero points and six losses in Melbourne City.

Worst away record: Melbourne Victory

Wanderers have gained fifteen points from five wins and one loss against the Mariners on the road.

Two draws against Victory and the rest losses on the road marks the Wanderers worst away trip against any team.
