Sydney FC roar past Brisbane

-

Sydney FC have increased their lead at the top of the A-League table with a 5-0 win over Brisbane Roar.

The defending champions were utterly dominate despite forced changes from last weekend’s lineup.

The Sky Blues took the lead early on when Milos Ninkovic put through a neat pass to Kosta Barbarouses, where the deflected cross found in-form forward Adam Le Fondre to finish.

A tight VAR offside call ruled out another goal for the Englishman following a crafty ball in behind the defence from Alex Baumjohann.

The second goal came shortly after. Baumjohann found Barbarouses out wide, who fed Ninkovic to slot home.

Next came a peach from Le Fondre to make it three when Rhyan Grant played a ball to Barbarouses and he found the former Bolton striker, who scored with a first-time curled finish.

Brisbane had a chance after half-time through substitute Aaron Holloway, when he flicked the ball into the hands of Redmayne.

Trent Buhagiar confirmed the result after coming off the bench with a smart finish following a Baumjohann assist.

The speedy winger turned provider to give Le Fondre a third for the night, a first ever hat-trick for him in Australia which made him this season’s current top scorer.

Brisbane finally scored when Stefan Mauk earned a penalty in stoppage time and Roy Donovan converted the consolation.

The result puts Sydney five points clear at the top of the A-League ahead of their clash with Central Coast in a week.

Brisbane, who are languishing near the other end of the table and will face Western United on Friday.
