After strong performances in their first W-League season, American imports Simone and Charley and Kaleigh Kurtz have been rewarded, with the pair both receiving individual honours at the Canberra United awards night.
After some stellar performances at the heart of the defence, Kurtz was handed the top gong, being named the Player of the Year.
The North Carolina Courage defender played every minute of the campaign, racking up 28 interceptions, 69 clearances, 13 blocks and one assist.
Her counterpart Simone Charley, also joining the club for the 2019/20 season, took out the Supporter’s Player of the Year award.
In her 11 games in Australia, the Portland Thorns loanee finished equal sixth among the league’s top scorers with five goals. Charley also racked up 22 key passes, 40 crosses and one assist and finished equal ninth for chances created.
Forward Leena Khamis was also awarded for her efforts, winning the Player’s Player award. In what could be her last season in the W-League, the veteran was a constant presence up front for United, contributing two goals and two assists.
