With Sydney FC ready to claim the A-League Premiership within the next few weeks, fans are slowly drawing their attention towards finals football.
Love it or hate it, finals are never as clear as the season presents it to be.
Round 22 came with some surprise results which saw some movements in the soccer betting odds. With only seven weeks left of the season, there is no saying which teams have the gall and resilience to keep their spot in the top six.
Sydney have proved to be the most resilient squad this A-League season. The strength built under Graham Arnold’s era has yet to dissipate under Steve Corica’s reign.
Despite their most recent slip up against Western Sydney Wanderers, Sydney once again found their might against Melbourne Victory.
Meanwhile for Melbourne Victory having no resilience has proved to be their greatest issue this season. Their number nine spot on the table has been a direct result of their inconsistencies each round.
Perth Glory and Melbourne City have been two of the most competitive and critical sides of the season. Both teams are trying to claim the number two spot on the A-League table and within finals.
Adelaide United are slowly slipping from their stop in the top six.
Finals for the men in red are still up in the air after their painful submission to Western United at Coopers Stadium.
Western has turned around their last few weeks of sub-par football with their second consecutive win and eleven goals in a week.
Taking Adelaide’s place in the top six there is a chance that their winning streak may wither away with yet with another injury looming over keeper Filip Kurto there is no telling just how long this streak will continue.
Brisbane Roar is now a serious contender in the A-League finals, accumulating more points than any club this season. Brisbane seems to be only getting better which each week.
The Wanderers and Central Coast Mariners have big questions marks over their performances this season. Though they have shown some positives, it might not be enough to catapult them into finals.
Across the way, Wellington Phoenix is continuing their ground-breaking season. Wellington has continued to rise on the table and in people’s opinions.
Despite the strong favourites, the rise of Western, Brisbane and Adelaide mean that finals football will be anything but predictable.
