Bulls suffer first A-League loss

-

Macarthur FC suffered their first A-League loss, after a frustrating 2-0 defeat, in a move that sent the Central Coast Mariners to the top of the table.

Daniel De Silva fired off the first shot of the match, to no avail as it went soaring over the cross bar.

In the 31st minute, Matt Simon had another chance to open the scoring for the Mariners but his shot was sent wide.

De Silva eventually opened the scoring, after a cross from Josh Nisbet, in the 35th minute.

The Bulls had their first real chance on goal to equal the score, however, Matt Derbyshire’s header went over the woodwork.

Before goalkeeper Adam Federici was forced to make a low save to prevent a second goal for the Mariners in the 43rd minute after Alou Kuol’s effort.

Minutes before half time, Loic Puyo had another chance to equal the scoring for Macarthur but his effort was off target.

Puyo sent the ball wide, after he had another opportunity to score in the opening quarter of the second half.

The Bulls kept pushing for the equaliser, with a close range header from Denis Genreau off target.

Simon was handed a yellow card for his challenge on Macarthur substitute Lachlan Rose, which created tension between the two until Simon was subbed off.

A match-saving save from Birighitti denied Ivan Franjic from scoring the equaliser in the 75th minute for the Bulls.

Genreau had another close range effort to try and make it 1-1, but it was saved by Birighitti in the 87th minute.

The match was over after Mariners substitute Jordan Smylie made it 2-0 in the 89th minute, off an assist across the face of goal from Daniel Bouman.
