Scores level as Canberra’s heat dominates the game

-

In tough conditions, neither W-League outfit was able to get the result. With temperatures above 35 degrees, Canberra United and Perth Glory put in performances they can be proud of in a 1-1 stalemate.

Despite a scoreless first half, United were the more dominant of the two teams. They maintained the majority of the possession but were largely kept in their own half.

With both of their shots managing to stay on target, Canberra United keeper Chantel Jones came up trumps with two crucial saves to keep her side in the game.

United’s defence kept a high line throughout the match, sustaining pressure on Glory with and without the ball.

United looked more threatening with the ball but continued to struggle in the final third, Glory’s defence staying strong in what was a tough half of football for them.

The second half began more evenly than the first, however United still looked like the team on top.

Fatigue clearly played a factor for squads in incredibly hot conditions.

Late goals from both the teams late on proved just how hard they all pushed, despite the 35 degree heat they were playing in.

Elizabeth Anton got on the end of a well-struck free kick to put Glory ahead, only for United’s Hayley Taylor-Young to strike back the very next minute.

Both teams pushed their absolute hearts out until the final minute, with a well earned point going to both teams on the day.
