The 5 A-League players you need as super subs on FIFA 21 Ultimate Team

-

Let’s face it, the A-League and FIFA Ultimate Team do not go hand in hand. Whether you are trying to win a squad battle or division rivals match, an A-League team is not your first choice.

If you are looking to win against quality opposition, the Premier League, LaLiga Santander, Bundesliga and Serie A TIM are popular options.

But as proud Australians who love and support the game down under, shouldn’t our squads have an Aussie or two, even just coming off the bench?

There are plenty of quality A-League players going around, and a few are genuinely worth picking up as a ‘super sub’ who could make a real impact late in a match.

The beauty of the bench, in particular on FIFA 21, is bringing on quick and agile players as opponents start to fatigue.

Another great feature in FIFA Ultimate Team is the use of player consumables, which increase a player’s statistics and can transform their in-game ability.

Wherever your squad hails from or however your team is organised, these are the top 5 A-League players who you need as a ‘super sub’ in FIFA 21 Ultimate Team.

5 – Nicolai Müller

Müller has already shown his ability as a ‘super sub’ after sending the Wanderers to the top of the table with a breakout performance against the Mariners in round four.

His goal in the 83rd minute was exactly what coach Carl Robinson was looking for in a second-half substitution, and exactly the player you need on your Ultimate Team bench.

The 74-rated attacking midfielder is the third highest ranked A-League player in FIFA 21 behind wingers Alessandro Diamanti and Diego Castro.

The German’s key statistic is his 79-rated dribbling, essential when working through midfield and pushing forward to beat defenders.

The player consumable you need to place on Müller is a hunter, which significantly boosts his pace and shooting statistics.

While his 70-rated statistics are adequate, increasing his pace and shooting will allow him to beat tired defenders and slot crucial goals at the death.

4 – Josh Risdon

Australia’s 2018 World Cup right-back Josh Risdon is the highest rated A-League defender in FIFA 21 and would work well coming off your bench.

The Western United and Socceroo right-back has not played yet this season, with a Tibia injury ruling him out of action for at least another month.

But just because he has not featured so far in the 2020/21 A-League season, he cannot be forgotten when looking for a bench defender.

His 79-rated physical attribute along with his decent pace and defending statistics makes a Risdon an Australian worth considering.

With the addition of the Shadow consumable, which increases pace and defending attributes, Risdon is a worthy ‘super sub’.

In particular, if a member of your defence is yellow carded late in a tight encounter, this Aussie right-back will come on and fight until the very end.

3 – Bruno Fornaroli

Fornaroli is the tied best A-League striker in FIFA 21 (alongside number two on this list) and needs a call up to your Ultimate Team bench.

The Perth Glory striker has two goals from two games already this season, amassing 61 goals since his A-League debut in the 2015/16 season with Melbourne City.

In FIFA, strikers need two attributes to be viewed as dangerous. Pace and shooting.

Decent dribbling and passing statistics are always handy but late in the game, these are not the most crucial.

Fresh and quick legs will get you in the clear and a good shooter will execute the goal you desperately need.

By placing a hunter consumable on Fornaroli, you will boost his pace and shooting statistics into the 80’s and he will do damage against tiring defenders.

2 – Jamie Maclaren

80 goals in the A-League since 2013, Jamie Maclaren knows how to find the back of the net and could score plenty more off the bench in your Ultimate Team.

The Socceroo and Melbourne City striker is both reliable and extremely dangerous, making him the perfect ‘super sub’.

While Maclaren is rated the same as Fornaroli in FIFA 21, the key statistical difference between these two players’ is pace.

Maclaren is slightly quicker than Fornaroli, and with the use of the hunter consumable, it has the potential to increase his pace to 90.

An elite attribute for an elite player, it may come as a surprise he has not topped this list.

But there is one Australian born winger who takes the glory.

1 – Chris Ikonomidis

Socceroo and Perth Glory star Chris Ikonomidis is the ‘super sub’ you need for your FIFA 21 Ultimate Team.

Ikonomidis, who is still yet to return from an ACL injury suffered in February last year, is a must coming off the bench.

Either an attacking midfielder or winger, Ikonomidis’ card has the attributes ready to cause chaos down the right flank.

82-rated pace, 74-rated dribbling, along with 86 agility means he has the attributes to get around tiring defenders late in a match.

A hunter consumable is required to help boost his 68-rated shooting, but it will be his ability to beat opponents and find space that will wreak havoc for your opponents.

The consumable will send the Australian’s pace rating to 92, an elite figure which elevates Ikonomidis into the top tier.

To have the Aussie touch you so desperately crave in your Ultimate Team squad, they do not come better than Chris Ikonomidis.
