Besart Berisha on the hunt to make history

-

As Western United take on Macarthur FC at Mars Stadium, Besart Berisha will be looking to clinch a significant milestone.

The Kosovo international has scored 136 A-League goals and currently sits third in the all-time Australian national league tally. This, of course, also includes the former National Soccer League too.

Just one more goal will put Berisha equal second on the charts, alongside Rod Brown.

Yet, despite the significance of the occasion, the striker has never brought it up in training.

He kept so quiet about it that not even Western United’s head coach knew.

“That’s actually the first time I’ve heard of that”, said Mark Rudan.

“You might think that Bes [Besart Berisha] is that type of guy, but he’s not. He certainly hasn’t brought it up, not with me this week.”

With that said, Rudan was not surprised to hear this news. He regards Berisha’s quality in front of goals as the best in the league.

“Bes is a fantastic marksman. He has shown that and proven to be the best in the A-League.

“He should be very proud of what he’s achieved.”

Now, the Western United coach set his striker an extra personal challenge.

“I expect him to become equal second and outright second this weekend.”

If he wants clinch top spot though, the Western United man would need to register 240 goals and match Damian Mori’s tally.

Berisha will take to the field this upcoming Saturday against a Bulls outfit coming off a 4-0 thrashing of Adelaide United.
