Loss comes at the perfect time: Juric

-

Sydney FC head coach Ante Juric says his side’s first loss of the season will benefit them in the long run.

The Sky Blue’s were thrashed 4-1 by Brisbane Roar on Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval. Despite their first loss of the season, Juric was upbeat following the defeat.

“Nothing changes – I’m not fussed, we keep working hard and doing the right things. This loss will do us good,” he said.

Before the fixture, Sydney had won six games in a row to start the season. While there was a belief among some that Sydney’s form made them clear title favourites, Juric claimed Brisbane were always the side to beat in the W-League.

“They have always been the benchmark… these [Brisbane] are internationals and foreigners,” he said.

“They deserved it, they were a lot better than us today.”

Juric said his young side were too slow on the ball against an experienced Brisbane outfit, who remain unbeaten. Despite losing, Sydney still sit first on the ladder.

He claimed the first loss of the season would help ground his squad, with the finals series looming.

“Maybe a bit of arrogance popped in with six in a row. This loss will do us good with the age of the team, so it’s come at a good time,” Juric said.

“We are still top and come the finals, we are going to give it a shake.”
