Macarthur Bulls held to a draw in new local rivalry

-

Macarthur FC were held to a 2-2 draw after a thrilling match against Western Sydney Wanderers in Campbelltown Stadium.

An ambitious long-range effort came from Aleksandar Susnjar in the 6th minute when his shot went inches over the bar.

Markel Susaeta’s cross from the corner gave Matthew Derbyshire a chance to head the ball which went wide in the 10th minute.

Two minutes later Derbyshire came inches from breaking the deadlock after taking his shot in an awkward position.

An early yellow card was shown to Bernie Ibini after pushing Denis Genreau to the ground inside the 15th minute.

The Bulls opened the scoring from a corner that saw Aleksandar Jovanovic’s header lobbed over and past Daniel Margush in the 18th minute.

The Wanderers were creating a few chances but were struggling getting past Macarthur’s defence after conceding.

An outstanding save from Macarthur’s number one, Adam Federici, to deny Tate Russell’s curling shot in the 41st minute.

Derbyshire scored the second for the Bull’s only for it to be ruled offside just before half-time.

It was the Wanderers captain, Graham Dorrans, who equalised by lobbing the ball over Federici outside the box in a one-on-one encounter in the 52nd minute.

However, the Bulls found their second of the night after Susnjar scored a header from a corner which came off the crossbar after Margush’s attempted save in the 58th minute.

The Wanderers were denied a goal in the 68th minute after a series of unfortunate events prevented the ball from going into the net.

However, Western Sydney scored their second equaliser of the night after a scorpion kick by Bruce Kamau which then came off the head of Simon Cox in the 71st minute.

Both sides kept pushing and creating chances in the last 10 minutes of the match to find the winner, but neither one was successful.

The Bulls showed promising signs on their quest towards their first win at their home stadium but a plucky Wanderers outfit ensured it wouldn’t happen just yet.
