Milicic: Tonight was the night it came together

-

Macarthur FC coach Ante Milicic says it all came together in a 4-0 win, that shattered Adelaide United 4-0, and he knew it would after his recruitment this season.

Milicic is aware of what his players are capable of producing, after the performance displayed on Friday night at Campbelltown Stadium.

“That was the whole point of the recruitment process,” he said.

“I recruited players that I was confident that could play that playing style. So I just didn’t take players that were available or that were offered to the football club.

“I had a clear vision how I wanted us to play.”

He said he noticed a handful of his players over the course of his coaching career.

“Working with players particularly over the last six-seven years with the national team, I’d come across a lot of these footballers,” he said.

“At the same time when you look at the foreign players that we brought in, we’ve brought in four, but they can all quickly adjust.”

However, Milicic admitted his side still have a lot of work to do.

“I think it’s taking time and we’re definitely not there, there’s a lot of work to do, but I think in the first four or five rounds we just glimpses or patches of how we can play,” he said.

“But look tonight was a night that it came together.”

The 46-year-old believes his team needs to be consistent, and have more time playing and training together to strengthen their chemistry.

“We’re pleased, but there’s a lot more work to do moving forward and we need to be a lot more consistent.”

“We firmly believe the more time that we’re together, working in the training field and in the game, that the understanding between these new group of boys will get better.

“Let’s see how it goes week to week.”
