Harder than ever to predict the A-League

-

With A-League in the final stretch, Melbourne City firm as strong favourites to take out both the premiership and the grand final with sites such as https://www.aussiecasinoreview.com/new-casinos/ offering ever-changing odds.

After a slow start to the season where their coach Patrick Kisnorbo’s job was put under early, what now seems to be foolish pressure, Melbourne City have earned the title of favourites to do the double. They sit a point clear on top of the table with a game in hand on their nearest challengers.

This season has been nightmarish for bookmakers, with odds changing frequently as a result of the difference in the amount of games sides have played. Currently there are sides that have played anywhere between 15 to 18 matches, meaning it is very difficult to predict who can make the top six and who will miss out.

Melbourne City, Central Coast Mariners, Adelaide United, Sydney FC, Western United and Brisbane Roar are odds-on favourites to make the six. Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets have understandably blown out to exceptionally long odds. Perth, Wellington, Macarthur and Western Sydney are all still priced at a decent chance of claiming a finals berth.

The surprising thing at the moment given how the season has panned out thus far, is that there are two clear favourites to take out the grand final. Melbourne City and Sydney FC are considerably favoured above the rest. This is puzzling as we have seen in the past, once finals time comes around, it really is anyone’s for the taking.

Given the dips and rises in form of the majority of the sides this season, you wouldn’t be surprised if a team currently sitting outside the top six went on to win it all.

The Mariners, who everyone had seemingly written off before the season even started, have recently been caught up by City. However, this season they have knocked off both premiership favourites. They currently sit only a point behind the ladder leaders, with five games to go.

Western United have begun to come home strong as well, winning three of their last four. This run of form included an impressive come from behind victory against the table topping City.

The volatility of this season’s results really does mean that it really is anyone’s title come finals time, more so than ever before. I can tell you one thing for sure – I wouldn’t want to be a bookie.
