Mental block keeping Glory from top 6

-

Following yet another loss, Perth Glory have found themselves in a mental slump as the A-League 20/21 season gets down to the wire.

After the side’s 3-1 loss to Wellington Phoenix, they sit 10th on the ladder. Glory will need to win their next few games if they want to stay in the running for finals football.

Head coach Richard Garcia said he believed the team could work through the recent hard times.

“It always tough when things aren’t going your way and sometimes in certain games throughout the season we probably haven’t had the upper ground and that has an effect psychologically but I feel that there’s enough experience within the group that we are going to be able to come out the other side,” he said.

As the team moves into the latter end of the competition, Garcia said it was imperative the squad stayed focused for the full 90 minutes and did not get disheartened when things were not going their way.

“At the moment we are putting in for 45, 60 and then little lapses of centration and small mistakes that cost us and heads start to go down and that’s something we are continuing to talk about and try and get the guys to brush that off and continue to put their best foot forward,” he said.

“It’s about the group as a whole and making sure everyone is ready for action for the full 90.”

He believes his side still has time to make up for the recent rough patch, having suffered three losses and one draw, and is confident they can push it aside and grow as a squad.

“There’s still plenty of football to be played, all be it in a condensed period but look it’s about us now brushing this off and growing another leg we need to find that confidence,” Garcia said.
